In Jan' 2003 David released his first single 'Stop Living The Lie' which went straight to number one selling over 250,000 copies in total making it the 12th highest selling single of 2003. 'Stop Living The Lie' stayed at the top spot for two weeks beaing knocked off by Tatu's 'All the things she said'. The single however was at large in the Official UK Top 40 for nine weeks.
In April 2003 David released his second single 'Don't Let Go' which entered the chart at #3. On the 27th April 2003, the day before David released his debut album 'Seven Years - Ten Weeks' both his first and and second singles were in the Top 40 [Stop Living the Lie at #36 and Don't Let Go at #3]. David's debut album 'Seven Years - Ten Weeks', produced by Hugh Padgham, entered the UK Official Top 40 Album chart at #5 earning a Gold classification the day of launch by making 100,000 sales.
To promote his album and celebrate the launch David did a mini tour of Scotland performing 7 gigs in the space of 10 hours. This culminated at the Glasgow Garage where he then stayed to celebrate his album launch in style with his friends and family.
Summer 2003 saw David touring with his band, consisting of Aaron, Ayo, Gareth, Jamie and John who have gelled very well together . David considers himself honoured to have them on board. While their university tour was originally intended as an experiment, the band have bonded incredibly well and converted students country wide to the joy of Sneddonism.
As well as playing a selection of University Gigs, David and his band have also performed at the Summer XS and Box Live touring festivals. David loves the gigging aspect of his career much more than the recording part and he flourishes in front of a live crowd.
July and August 2003 brought with them mixed fortunes for the smiley Glaswegian. Elton John gave David the great honour of inviting him to be his support act at a gig in Hull. The event was spectacular and emotional and David cites it as one of his highest points of 2003. During this time David was also doing a stint as guest presenter on BBC1's The Saturday Show. David released his third single from his debut album 'Seven Years - Ten Weeks' in August 2003 although it failed to break the top 10 coming in at #19. Not bad for the third single from the album.
In September 2003 David took a well earned holiday with his girlfriend Eleanor, and spent 2 sunny weeks on the island of Barbados (one of his prizes from winning Fame Academy). Upon his return he then embarked on a radio tour of the UK to get the ball rolling on promotion for his fourth single, a new track 'Baby Get Higher'. October saw the release of 'Baby Get Higher' along with the brilliant news that David has signed a publishing deal with Universal Music Group.
On 31st October David walked out on his record label Mercury Records, giving his story and reasons to the Daily Record which you can read in full in our news section of the site. In November David performed twice in one day (at Toryglen and in Paisley) as a farewell to his fans.
November 2003 also saw David honoured at both the Radio Forth Awards and the Tartan Clef Awards. David was presented with a Tartan Clef award for his outstanding contribution to songwriting.
David continued to support charity and attended the Rangers Charity Foundation Ball which raised over £49,000 for Alzheimer Scotland, the Variety Club Scotland and Prince&Princess of Wales Hospice. As a patron of the Scottish Autistic Society David also performed in celebration of the opening of the new Foxbar autism centre.
December, the month of 'best-of's' from the year etc, of course saw Davids success honoured. David's video for 'Stop Living The Lie' was added back onto video Channel The Box and received great video airplay. 'Stop Living The Lie' also came 20th in the 'Record Of The Year' competition, and finished up 14th in the 'Sales to Date' for the year 2003. Meanwhile, David himself appeared on video channels again for the Bo Selecta! single 'Proper Crimbo'! David was seen thrice in the 'Proper Crimbo' video, including Avid Merrion possibly overstepping the boundaries of decent behaviour by having his way with him under the mistletoe (just a kiss!!).... December saw David move out of his 'Fame Academy' winners flat - which of course led to lots of press speculation that he was now living in a gutter in Soho... while the tabloids were busy writing about that, David was, apparently busying himself meeting up with Kevin Spacey in London, who had been previously impressed by Stop Living The LIe and it was rumoured they were discussing songwriting opportunities for movie soundtracks. The Sunday Herald also reported in December that David was co-writing with Ricky Ross. Despite all of this,
David still had time to do his usual bit for charity, and along with friends and in conjuction with the PACE youth theatre group managed to raise £2500 for the Erskine Hospital at an event in his home town of Paisley.
